Starting a Successful E-Mail Marketing Campaign

Nowadays, e-mail marketing has become the trend. Unfortunately, I've seen quite a few mistakes and done some too. Few years back I have lost few clients not because of the content being delivered, but as I had no idea what requirements were required to host your own application. Don't worry, there's no need to develop a customized system, in fact I suggest you don't. There are few options available which can help you succeed with your e-mail marketing campaign.

Do your research

Do you wish to develop and/or host a mailing list system on your server?
There are few things to keep in mind.

Newsletters should be sent using an SMTP server, not the common mail function such as the php mail() function. Connecting to an SMTP server will authenticate the sender thus reducing the risk be marked as spam.

Contact your hosting provider and ask about e-mail relays. E-mail relays will are the amount of e-mail sent per hour. be sure that the mailing list system you are hosting does provide a scheduler specifing the amount of e-mails per hour as if not, the additional e-mails will not be sent.

If your hosting does not meet your requirements don't panic. There are more solutions available. There are companies such as Constant Contact, Benchmark Email and iContact to name a few, which provide e-mail marketing services. Such providers normally offer a rich control panel with multiple tools from providing subscription forms to sending a mail shot as well as providing statistics.
